Earlier this year, Mia Stuart, 19, was in a coma after her latest suicide attempt. Her parents were told her life support would be switched off in 48 hours if there was no improvement.
She survived and now, in National Suicide Prevention Week, she has bravely told her powerful story to help give hope to others who are in despair with their mental health.
The Northern Echo leads its front page with the story, which is told in full on my weekly page inside the paper. As a dad myself, I found the interview heartbreaking but inspirational.
Mia is a remarkable, eloquent, talented young woman from a loving family. I thank her for having the courage to speak out, and her parents for giving consent to the story being told.
I hope Mia finds peace and happiness and goes on to fulfil her wish to pursue a career in mental health support.
The light will come…
