My wife and I had great fun yesterday, joining in the attempt to break the world record for the most people doing ‘The Loco-motion’.
The record bid took place – appropriately – at the magnificent Locomotion railway museum, at Shildon, with hundreds of people putting on a joyful display of community spirit.
OK, the records will show that we fell 600 or so short of the record of 1,752 but it was a first attempt that will surely be followed up soon.
In the meantime, I’ve had an overnight message from a friend and colleague, Lisa Taylor, who heads up the marketing team at the North East Autism Society.
“I saw you on Durham County Council’s Facebook Live. I could tell it was you straight away because you were going in the opposite direction to everyone else!” she said.
How dare she?
It reminds me of the the famous Morecambe and Wise sketch when Eric Morecambe’s piano playing is criticised by conductor André Previn. He grabs Previn by the lapels and insists: “I’m playing all the right notes…but not necessarily in the right order.”
For the record, I was actually going in the right direction – it was all the others who got it wrong.
