Sad to hear of the passing of Haughton Cricket Club President Norman Sturman.
I have fond memories of “Stormin’ Norman” being the overall winner of The Northern Echo’s Local Heroes Awards in 2002.
The judges described him as “the embodiment of everything that is good about grass roots sport – commitment, passion, and a true gentleman”.
His passing was announced in a post this weekend on Haughton Cricket Club’s Facebook page, which adds: “He truly lived and breathed for Haughton. Will be missed and remembered by all.”
I’ll be writing a full tribute to a much-loved local figure in due course. RIP Norman.
