What a joy this morning to read the tributes to Dolly Parton. Not a bad word has been written or spoken – just a heart-felt outpouring of love and positivity.
Dolly’s life will be remembered not just for her great talent as a singer-songwriter but for much more.
Alongside her songs, her legacy will be her philanthropy, including her contribution to literacy by giving away books to millions of children through her Imgination Library.
Kindness, care, humility, respect, and balance – values that are the antithesis of the extremism and division that’s building around the world.
From greedy, powerful political leaders who spread that division, to the cowardly keyboard warriors who spout their hate on social media platforms like this one, she was an example to them all.
Just because someone has a different point of view, doesn’t mean you have to denigrate them and shower them with foul-mouthed abuse.
Even if that simple message resonates and changes behaviours, it will be a welcome consequence of a life well lived.
